John got a job at the Erie Dispatch Herald (Warren Office) when he returned from the military. John wrote in his journal, “My future has been decided, to start work next Monday…here’s hoping…”. His career in newspaper began on June 17, 1946. It was only a month later when he received an offer to work at the Erie office at 9th and State St. By July John received his first of many by-lines.
John was working in downtown Erie covering his beat as a Reporter. He covered the Court House for awhile, he loved the police beat! He enjoyed covering all kinds of events. A major flood in Erie, the Soapbox Derby and The Barnum and Bailey Circus, just to name a few.
