Marcella spoke about living post World War II. Things had not returned to normal yet and there were shortages of many food items, especially meat. John was assigned a story about the shortage of meat. On October 8, 1946 John went to Clark’s Restaurant and interviewed a very pretty young waitress, Marcella. After that, John often stopped at Clark’s Restaurant for coffee. And so the romance began! It wasn’t until November 24 that John asked Marcella out. The next day they went to see “Make Mine Music,” an animated film produced by Walt Disney. Johns journal read “Very good first date!”
John’s journal talks about many beautiful dates with Marcella. They went to many movies together. There were many amazing meals and quiet evenings at Marcella’s House getting to know each other. Trips to Warren and Milwaukee to meet relatives. And, of course John getting to know little Tommy! After only 2 months of dating, John wrote” Beautiful afternoon date…this is getting too serious too fast!”
